A full jury inquest will be held into the death of a boy from Mid Wales who died after being hit by a falling goalpost.

Casey Breese, from Caersws, near Newtown, died on July 29 last year when the goalpost fell down and hit him at the village recreation ground.

The 12-year-old was pronounced dead after being taken by air ambulance to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the incident.

Powys coroner Louise Hunt held a pre-inquest review yesterday at Neuadd Maldwyn, in Welshpool, during which she revealed the full jury inquest will be held.

She said: "I can confirm the jury inquest into the death of Casey Breese will be held in Welshpool from October 22."

The inquest is expected to take a number of days.

Hundreds of tributes were paid to Casey at the time of his death, on Facebook and also on football shirts and flowers left at the recreation ground. A Manchester Uni-ted shirt was also left at the scene.

Casey suffered liver trau-ma and crush injuries after the goalpost fell on him, Dyfed-Powys Police said at the time of the incident. In March, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) issued clubs in the country with new guidelines over the use of goalposts in response to Casey's death. The FAW launched an inquiry into unsupervised pitches, with new guidelines published.

In a letter to clubs and area associations, FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford said: "Safety must always be of paramount importance both when goalposts are being used for a match or training purposes, and when not in use and stored away."
