Ten members of the Shropshire branch of the British Red Cross are to embark on an overnight cycle ride around London to raise cash for the charity.

The London Nightrider Challenge will take place on June 9 and will see riders take to the streets of the capital at night, cycling a distance of 100km.

Staff and volunteers from Shropshire's Red Cross office, based in Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, will be among those taking part in the charity endeavour.

The idea to do a team cycle challenge initially came from office administrator Cheryl Roberts.

She said: "In the past I've always done a challenge to support our fundraising efforts for Red Cross Week in May, from a sponsored silence, spending 24 hours in a wheelchair, to jumping out of a plane last year.

"As I started mentioning the idea to colleagues and volunteers support grew and we're now a team of 10."

Although cycling around London tourist sites of London will be very different from the tranquil lanes of Shropshire, the cyclists are all enthusiastic about the experience.
