Residents in Market Drayton have criticised plans for hundreds of new homes in the town as a '19th century proposal'.

Home owners in Rush Lane, which is earmarked for 324 houses, have raised concerns about potential overcrowding in local schools, pressure on the sewage system and the loss of agricultural land.

The proposals for more than 400 homes in Market Drayton in the next 14 years also include 76 homes between Croft Way and Greenfields Lane.

Roy Whitehouse, of Rush Lane, who attended a drop-in session with 11 neighbours, said: "We found no-one who thought it was a good idea and we spoke to quite a lot of people including two councillors, one who said 'we do not need more houses in Market Drayton.'"
