Two medical practices in Shrewsbury have been put up for sale as work continues on a £13 million replacement primary care centre in the town.

The Albert Road and Mount Pleasant surgeries are due to close in the autumn.

The new centre to serve more than 15,000 patients is being built in Sundorne Road.

The buildings are on the market with Pengwern Estates, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, but no guide price has been published. Offers are invited either unconditionally or subject to planning.

Ben Pryce-Boutwood, who is in charge of the sale for Pengwern Estates, said that the buildings could be used for commercial purposes or demolished to make way for housing, subject to permission.

He added: "The new centre will house two medical practices, Albert Road and Mount Pleasant, as well as Rowlands Pharmacy and other health-related providers.

"As a result of the relocation, the existing surgery buildings at Albert Road and Ditherington Road will become redundant from October and are currently on the market.

"Both properties could be put to a variety of alternative uses such as a vets, creche or dental surgery under existing planning rules or be used for offices. Each property has dedicated car parking."

Work on the replacement medical centre, which is being constructed by Morgan Sindall plc, began in November.
