More than 25 restaurants, pubs, takeaways and other food establishments in Telford have had the results of their health and hygiene inspections made public in the latest round of Scores on the Doors.

The scheme started nearly four years ago and rates premises on a star basis, with none being the worst and five the best. Ratings are posted on a website, with business bosses allowed the right of reply.

In the latest round, 16 of the 26 have been awarded four or five stars – leading council bosses to champion the high standards of food hygiene and management across the borough.

Those getting top marks include the McDonalds in Donnington and Da Gino's in Madeley High Street.

Not one business got no stars, with four picking up one star. They have been issued with orders to improve and will be subject to a follow-up inspection.

All premises scoring two stars or above comply with the law.

Any business where an inspection has yet to take place will be clearly marked NYR (not yet rated) on the website to help consumers know if a business has been inspected or not.

Food businesses in the borough to be rated include pubs, restaurants, takeaways, supermarkets, private caterers, care homes and school kitchens.

Businesses can choose to display their certificate if they wish.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for community protection at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "The website was launched with the aim of helping consumers to make an informed choice about where they eat and buy food.

"It has been hugely successful and well used here in Telford and Wrekin. I would urge everyone to check it out."
