Dairy giant Müller is set to cut the price it pays farmers for milk.
In a blow to local dairy farmers who supply the Market Drayton-based yoghurt maker, Müller is to cut prices by 0.5 pence per litre from February 1.
It informed traders with a letter circulated this week, which explained the company's need to cut costs.
The cut leaves the firm's standard single contract price around 28.9 pence per litre – a 1.7 per cent decrease in the price paid to farmers.
It follows a pre-Christmas decision from Müller to axe 55 jobs from across its UK and Irish operations in a further bid to cut costs.
The news came shortly after the firm launched its largest-ever marketing campaign, spending £20 million on an advertisement which launched with a 90-second slot shown simultaneously across 50 different channels.
Nobody from the company was available for comment on the move today.
