A number of new jobs could be created in Oswestry if supermarket plans to expand and relocate are given the green light.

Bosses want to move the Co-op in Victoria Road across the road into the former VW garage.

The shop bosses believe having a new store could create the equivalent of 12 full-time jobs.

The planning application shows the store would also provide parking for 25 cars.

The new store would be created inside the existing car showroom building and the current glass front would be replaced with a new shop front, a sliding door and an ATM.

Town Councillor Paul Milner said: "The application presents an opportunity for employment.

"However my support will be conditional on the extensive consultation held with the immediate and surrounding community. I think that they should be asked about it first."

The Co-op states in the planning application that it is keen to use local suppliers and sub-contractors if planning permission is granted.
