A new guide map is in the pipeline for Much Wenlock as it prepares to welcome thousands of extra visitors in the run-up to the London Olympics.

Bill Stenlake, chairman of Much Wenlock Chamber of Trade, said they wanted to create a guide to the town in time for 2012. He said the current one was drawn up a long time ago and was running low on stock.

Now fresh efforts are being made to create a replacement and the chamber is working with Shropshire Council.

Mr Stenlake said: "We are working on a few projects at the moment – one of which is to bring out a new town guide map in time for 2012.

"There is a map but it seems to have been done quite a long time ago. Stocks are low and nobody wanted to re-print it."

He said the guide map was very basic at present with tourist information on the back and the map on the front.

Mr Stenlake said they wanted to bring it in line with one at Ludlow with advertising around the edges. The plan is to bring the new guide map out in the New Year.

Meanwhile, workers from Shropshire are being urged to apply for the tens of thousands of jobs that will be on offer at the London 2012 Olympics.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) says people can consider applying for one the jobs available between now and Games time.

A LOCOG spokesman said: "To ensure the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a success, a huge workforce of people will be needed.
