Council bosses have pledged to help underachieving children at a school on the Shropshire border which has gone under new management with an Interim Executive Board (IEB).

This new board replaces the nine-strong board of governors at Audlem's St James Primary School, near Market Drayton.

It comes after Education Secretary Michael Gove agreed to its introduction after a request from Cheshire East Council, the school's education authority.

Council bosses today revealed four education specialists with proven track records of bringing about excellence in troubled schools have been appointed on the board.

The move follows a survey by the council in April which found 82 per cent of parents who responded were in favour of an IEB being appointed.

Some parents have voiced concerns over pupils' performance at the school after it was rated satisfactory by Ofsted after an inspection last September.
