A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car on a main road in Mid Wales.

The male rider of a blue Suzuki motorcycle is believed to be from Minsterley, near Shrewsbury.

He died when his bike collided with a blue Ford Puma car on the A483 at Dolfor, two miles south of Newtown at 8.20pm yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The main road was closed for almost four hours while emergency services carried out investigations.

Dyfed-Powys Police is urging anybody with information on the crash to come forward.

Inspector Mark Davies, of the Roads Traffic Unit in Mid Wales, said the collision happened on the bend next to a popular unclassified road that leads to Mochdre in Newtown.

He said: "Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit is investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 8.20pm yesterday on the A483 Newtown to Dolfor road.

"The accident happened at the junction with the unclassified road leading to Mochdre. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, namely a blue coloured Ford Puma and a blue coloured Suzuki motorcycle.

"As a result of the collision the male rider of the Suzuki received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene."
