Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital has won the right to become a Foundation Trust helping to secure jobs and improve services.

The hospital was given the status this week and it will give it more freedom to make improvements.

The facility, at Gobowen, will no longer be tied to central government which will mean it will have more independence in a move that will give the public a bigger say on how services should be developed.

People can now become members and governors for the service.

The hospital's new title will be The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

On Sunday the Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley CBE MP, took a tour of the hospital where he congratulated staff on achieving the status.

Lyn O'Connor, president of The League of Friends for the hospital, said she was delighted by the decision.
