Police hunting a former Shropshire border villager accused of a string of sex offences have appealed for information on television.

Richard John Ramsey Burrows, formerly of Audlem near Market Drayton, featured on last night's BBC Crimewatch programme.

The 66-year-old was charged by police in 1998 with multiple offences of gross indecency relating to the abuse of young boys in a Cheshire care home more than 30 years ago.

Police say he disappeared prior to his trial in 1998 and has not faced trial for the offences he is accused of.

Detectives in Cheshire Constabulary's paedophile unit are using facial-ageing technology in the hunt.

Detective Chief Inspector Giles Orton, of Cheshire Constabulary, said: "We have taken the step of releasing an age-enhanced image of Burrows in the hope somebody recognises his current appearance and contacts us. I would urge anyone who recognises Burrows, or who has any knowledge of his current location or whereabouts in recent years, to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 4580000.

"It is important that Burrows stands trial."
