A public meeting is being held in Ludlow tomorrow to find out how hard townsfolk are being hit by government spending cuts. The event is called "Ludlow and the Cuts - Who are the Hardest Hit?".

It has been organised by Churches Together Around Ludlow (CTAL).

It will be held at Ludlow Methodist Church on Broad Street tomorrow night and people have been urged to turn out and make their feelings known.

Neil Richardson, chairman of CTAL, said the meeting had been intended initially as an information gathering exercise.

But he said after attending a similar meeting run by the Society of Friends in the town earlier in the month he was keen to find out who was being hit the hardest by the cuts.

He said: "There was lots of anger and frustration at the meeting held earlier this month.

"There are people who are keen to organise some sort of protest to make their views known and, if we decided to go down that route, we would liaise in solidarity with other groups across the county.

"There is widespread dismay at local cuts — we recognise there has to be some but it comes down to the amount of consultation and discussions held beforehand.

"We also plan to hold this as an information gathering exercise.

"We want to know who is being hit hardest by the cuts and to see if anything can be done to help these people."

Tomorrow's meeting at Ludlow Methodist Church will start at 7.30pm. Entry is free and all are welcome.
