Marriage moments for St Lawrence pupils

Prince William and Kate Middleton may have been unable to make it, but nothing could ruin the big day for pupils at a Shropshire primary school as they celebrated their "marriage".

Young love was in the air at St Lawrence's Church in Preston upon the Weald Moors, near Telford, as the school held a mock wedding to teach children about Christian celebrations.

Carla Hughes-Harvey, class three teacher at St Lawrence Primary School, said: "I thought it was a really nice event, especially with William and Kate's wedding next month. We had actually invited them, but unfortunately got no response.

"But it was a fantastic day and brought the whole school together. The church was packed with about 110 people, including parents, teachers and governors."

Pupils Charlotte Priest and Charley Higgs were the two lucky pupils whose names were drawn from a hat to be bride and groom.

The Reverend Edward Ward led the service, with pupils modelling outfits loaned by Peter Posh and Wedding World in Telford.

Mrs Hughes-Harvey added: "It was so exciting for them all, but also taught important lessons about planning and organisation as they have been working on preparing the event for the last five weeks.

A reception was held back at the school.
