A dog has been found dead in a bin bag outside a Shropshire train station.
The Cavalier King Charles spaniel was dumped in a plastic bag and left outside the station in Shifnal on Wednesday.
RSPCA inspectors said the elderly female dog was in an appalling condition and had matted hair, was severely underweight and had open ulcerated wounds.
The dog was discovered at 8.30am after a black bin bag was found on a drive near the car park of the station close to Aston Road. Inside were clothes including a purple and green hockey top with Mighty Ducks of Anaheim written on it. The dog's body was wrapped in a pair of tan coloured shorts.
RSPCA inspector Jackie Hickman took the dog to the vet's, who estimated the spaniel had not been dead for long.
She said: "This animal has suffered for several weeks before death and we must find out who was responsible," adding: "I truly believe someone locally will know who this dog belonged to and I plead with them to please contact me."
Call the RSPCA on 0300 1234999 and leave a message for Inspector Hickman.
