A man in his 30s suffered a broken leg and head injuries after being hit by a car in Church Stretton.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which involved a red Fiat Uno. It happened at about 8.43pm last night outside Best Kebab and Burger House, on Sandford Avenue.

Police closed the road for the man to be treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The vehicle involved is believed to have initially left the scene but a man, believed to be the driver, identified himself to officers a short time later.

Chris Kowalik, press spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to an incident outside the kebab shop at about 8.43pm last night. A man in his 30s had numerous injuries including a head injury, neck pain and a fractured tibula and fibula.

"He was immobilised using a spinal board and neck collar and taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where the trauma team was placed on alert."
