A man left with serious head injuries after seven people were hurt in a two-car smash in Shropshire was still in a critical condition in hospital, police said today.

The eastern European man was a passenger in a silver Vauxhall Astra involved in an accident with a silver Peugeot 307 estate on the A41 road at Weston Heath, near Shifnal, on Tuesday night.

He was taken by ambulance to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital with multiple injuries before being transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where he is said to be critical but stable.

Another man, also a passenger in the Vauxhall, was taken to hospital with a serious leg break.

He is described as being in a stable condition.

Five more people, a man, a woman and a girl from the Peugeot and two men from the Vauxhall, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, in particular the driver of a lorry, to get in touch.
