The man, who has not yet been named, was from the Machynlleth area, police said today.
Officers are calling for anyone who knows anything about the accident to come forward to help with the investigation.
Inspector Mark Davies, of the Mid Wales Road Policing Team, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the collision happened at 1pm.
He said: "Dyfed-Powys police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which took place on the A487 north of Bow Street, near Aberystwyth at around 1pm on Sunday.
Injuries
"A 60-year-old male from the Machynlleth area died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision which involved a motorcycle and two other motor cars."
A spokeswoman for Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said two fire engines attended the scene and helped make the vehicles safe.
She said: "We received the call shortly before 1pm to a collision on the A487 at Bow Street.
"Two crews were sent to the scene and firefighters assisted in helping the police and ambulance service by making the vehicles safe.
"We were stood down shortly afterwards and returned to base in Aberystwyth."
A spokesman for the Wales Ambulance Service said three land ambulances attended and two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Powys Coroner Mr Peter Maddox has been informed and a postmortem examination is due to be carried out in the next couple of days.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned by Mr Maddox.
Inspector Davies added that anybody with information regarding the crash should contact the police as soon as possible.
"We are keen for anybody with information or who may have witnessed the collision to get in touch with us as soon as possible," he said.
He said witnesses could speak to an officer by calling 0845 3302000.
