Hundreds of workers took to the streets of Telford today to protest at Government proposals to cut jobs, compensation and pensions.

Workers at the MoD base in Donnington took part in this afternoon's march from the MoD base to Cordingley Hall in Donnington.

Len McCluskey, assistant general secretary of union Unite, said: "I have come here to the demonstration today to show my support for our members faced with these threats and cuts which could destroy families and communities.

"They are not needed and I am going to stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

"We are not prepared to allow this to happen.

"Workers are very angry because they are faced with pay freezes and attacks on their pensions and redundancies.

"It is an absolute outrage and this will destroy places like Donnington. Workers are angry to the point of industrial action."

Chris Cadman, Unite representative at the base in Donnington, added: "I hope the Government will listen because we are fed up and we will follow this with a national campaign.

"It is only a matter of time before the Government wakes up and realises we could be facing another winter of discontent."

Two more rallies involving hundreds of protesters were also due take place in Telford today.
