A teenager was sexually assaulted in an early morning attack after she was picked up as she walked along a Telford street, detectives revealed today.

The 18-year-old was walking along Regent Street in Wellington when a black 4x4 pulled up alongside her. She travelled in the vehicle with the man when she was subjected to a "serious sexual assault" after she was driven away from the area.

The attack happened at 7am on Good Friday after the victim had been on a night out in Wellington. Detectives released details today as they appealed for the driver of a green estate car, which police believe passed the attacker's vehicle when the woman was approached, to come forward.

The green car was seen passing the attacker's black 4x4, possibly a Land Rover with a 2010 number plate, on CCTV footage.

Detectives said they did not want to speak to this driver as a possible suspect but believe the driver may have seen the victim before she got into the vehicle. The victim was wearing a short black dress and black shoes.

Detective Sergeant Billy Scott, of Telford CID, said: "It is possible that the driver of this green car may have vital information."

He urged the driver of the green car, or anyone who could help track down the witness, to call police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
