Letter: Turning a deaf ear to too many charity pleas

Letter: In my street we average one clothing appeal bag each week. I have no problem with helping out; however I would like to point out to these charitable organisations that asking people to donate on a weekly basis is over the top.

clothes-on-railLetter: In my street we average one clothing appeal bag each week. I have no problem with helping out; however I would like to point out to these charitable organisations that asking people to donate on a weekly basis is over the top.

The estate I live on is social housing in an area of high unemployment.

Most of the people in this area have barely enough income to clothe themselves never mind the rest of the nation.

I have heard it said that shopping in charity shops for clothes has now become more expensive than going into some of the mainstream shops. Britain is 'charity ridden', it's big business with chief executives demanding high salaries.

From now on the bags will be used as bin liners, when and if I can afford to turn out clothes they will go to the clothing banks.

I am not going to give way to emotional blackmail any longer.
