Letter: In response to Trev Butler's letter (February 26) I would like to point out that the five shillings for over-80s was given in the early 1950s by a Labour government and has not been increased by any government since.
It would then buy 1cwt of coal and leave 6d change – two and a half pence today.
In December I received £400 fuel payment which paid 50 per cent of my heating oil for a year – the difference between sitting in a warm house and sitting shivering in an overcoat to watch television – and the licence being paid by the Government which is worth about £3 a week.
So come on Trev get a life, start living and stop moaning.
Things are not all bad, even under this so-called mob.
