Letter: Action needed over historic building

This is shameful state of affairs and is a blight on the town.
I and many other local residents are concerned at its neglect and the lack of action by the town and borough councils in getting it restored and re-opened.
A rebuilt Charlton Arms Hotel would fully support the regeneration of the town and it would provide a focal point for the community.
It has considerable potential for new owners with imagination and marketing flair.
I realise it is a difficult situation for local politicians, but I think it is now time for the Telford & Wrekin Council to take urgent action to compulsorily purchase the building to save it from further neglect and decay and then to look to work with a national pub or hotel group to re-open it as a hotel.
This is a key issue for Wellington and it's time for some immediate and positive action from the Telford & Wrekin Council.
Such action would be warmly welcomed by many in the community.
