Court hears of shotgun shooting

A Telford man was shot in the arm with a sawn-off shotgun during a row over an illegal prescription drugs deal, it was alleged in court today.

Wayne Joseph Jones was left bleeding heavily from pellet wounds to his right arm and above one eye in the incident alleged to have taken place in James Close, Trench, two days ago, town magistrates heard.

Lee Ashley, 38, of Cordingley Way, Donnington, and 27-year-old Faye Myddleton, of Kearton Terrace, Hadley, appeared before the court today charged with attempting to murder Mr Jones.

The pair were remanded in custody and the case was sent to Shrewsbury Crown Court for a hearing on February 1.

Details of the case were made public when Mr John MacMillan, defending, successfully applied at the hearing for reporting restrictions to be lifted.

Mr MacMillan alleged that Myddleton had arr-anged to meet Mr Jones near his home last Wednesday morning to buy illegal prescription drugs.

He told the court Mr Jones sold her a carrier bag of drugs for £70 and then went home but when Myddleton looked in the bag she claimed she had been "ripped off".

Mr MacMillan said: "She lost her rag and charged off to this chap's house."

Mr MacMillan alleged that when Ashley arrived, Mr Jones produced a gun and added: "There was then a struggle, particularly between Faye Myddleton and this man. Somewhere in that melee the gun was discharged."

Mr Rob Edwards, prosecuting, said Mr Jones claimed it was Ashley who produced the gun from under his coat and fired at him from waist height.
