There are graduate jobs out there

The recession-fuelled headlines make depressing reading.

job_centre1The recession-fuelled headlines make depressing reading.

Only recently the West Midlands Chambers of Commerce reported a decline in all sectors of business across the region in the first three months of the year.

This is having a knock-on effect on the jobs market, with confidence at an all-time low amongst those looking for employment.

We recently carried out a survey with over 1,000 undergraduates at seven of the main university campuses in the region and, unsurprisingly, found they fear the recession will leave them out of work when they complete their studies.

Grad Central, a new recruitment service funded by Advantage West Midlands, has a number of graduate level roles still to fill due to a lack of candidates.

With 20,000 new graduates set to enter the West Midlands jobs market this summer, my advice to any final year student, is to start looking now.

There are degree level jobs out there, and many businesses that we are working with are creating new roles for graduates.
