Town must support its capital rail route
LETTER - It is important for everyone in Wellington to fully support the WSMR rail services to London Marylebone.
LETTER - It is important for everyone in Wellington to fully support the WSMR rail services to London Marylebone.
The present uncertainty about the future of the service at Wellington is worrying and cannot be based on passenger numbers.
The regeneration of Wellington needs good transport links to attract new business and tourism.
A successful town needs a through rail service to London and a well cared for rail station. Wellington offers free parking, a ticket office, disabled access and a buffet cafe - therefore it provides much better facilities than Cosford station, which the company is presently promoting and where all trains stop for no passengers.
However, at a time of recession and a severe credit crunch, it seems very strange that a company would want to turn away customers and upset a large community.
Good business practice would be to develop and promote an existing customer base.
And look for ways to expand passenger numbers, especially at a time of economic constraint.
