Change of policy on tributes at cemetery
LETTER - I would like to take this opportunity to contact those of you who, like our family, received a very upsetting letter from the new manager of bereavement services at London Road Crematorium and memorial garden, regarding the chaffinch area.
LETTER - I would like to take this opportunity to contact those of you who, like our family, received a very upsetting letter from the new manager of bereavement services at London Road Crematorium and memorial garden, regarding the chaffinch area.
You will have been sent a copy of the regulations with your letter, but please check your paperwork and make sure these are the ones you were given at the time of purchase of these plots. If, like us, you have been given the wrong ones then please write to the manager in the first instance to register your complaint.
We have maintained our grave for over two years now and have received many commendations from the many people we have come to know over this time. Now if we don't adhere to one floral tribute within the stone, our items will be removed from September 15.
As a family we will do all we can to prevent the council taking this course of action and for those of you who chose this area for your loved ones because of the majority of people caring for and tending the graves, I urge you to do the same.
I am bewildered that the council will have the resources to use "cemetery police or bailiffs" to seize people's items when they have little funds available to empty bins regularly, weed areas and repair their lawnmower so the grass can be cut.
We have been told we were top of the list to have a memorial bench installed, at our cost, but we are still waiting. Will it be worth it? If the council has its way the area will be deserted.
