The 33-year-old, who captained Portsmouth to FA Cup glory last month, turned up at Pussycats Nightclub in Wellington on Saturday night.
Nightclub bosses today said he posed with fans and spent an hour-and-a-half in the main room before enjoying the VIP area until the early hours.
Dale Lloyd, nightclub spokesman, said Campbell was in the county for a reunion with former colleagues from his time at Lilleshall Sports Centre.
Mr Lloyd said: "We didn't know he was coming and then word got around the club and they were queuing for his autograph. He was great."
Campbell could have added to his England caps had they qualified for the Euro 2008 finals. Mr Lloyd added: "As England fans, we obviously would rather have seen Sol on the TV at the weekend representing his country."
