I expect to get MP's backing
I recently challenged the Prime Minister in the Commons over funding for Shropshire schools.
I recently challenged the Prime Minister in the Commons over funding for Shropshire schools.
I asked him to explain how children in Telford get on average over £200 per year more towards their education from Government than pupils in Shrewsbury.
I conveyed to the PM my anger at the fact that primary schools in my constituency have been under threat from closure as a result of the lack of funding from central Government.
As I complained about the inequality of the situation with Telford, the town's MP David Wright looked unmoved.
In my discussions with him he shows no concern about the discrepancy.
Why should he, you might ask. He has Telford to look after and if they are getting more than Shrewsbury why should he worry about that?
Well I think he should be worried and that is why I am sending this open letter to him - to demand that he helps me to ensure that there is equal funding for the whole of Shropshire.
I visited Buildwas Primary School the day after I challenged the Prime Minister in the Commons. This excellent school was one of those at threat from closure.
It is about 900 yards from the border with Telford & Wrekin. What I found fascinating is that nearly 50 per cent of the pupils come from Telford!
Although we get so little money compared to Telford the standards reached by my primary schools is so high that Telford's education authority is sending children across the border into our schools.
So, Mr Wright, I expect that the next time I am fighting for Shrewsbury primary schools that you will help me to raise the issue with the Government.
Daniel Kawczynski MP, Shrewsbury
