Lack of respect is appalling
After reading Mr Paul Baker's letter regarding the total lack of respect given to his mother's funeral cortege, may I first extend my condolences and offer these words which are of little comfort.

This appalling behaviour is a sign of these materialistic self-absorbed times. People - not just drivers - have no respect for themselves never mind anyone else.
I am not an old fuddy-duddy who "remembers when". But I was taught to pull over for emergency vehicles and stop for all funeral cortege vehicles, even a bridal procession (to which you gave a peep of the horn) was shown courtesy.
It seems that in less than 10 years we have become a country of rude, road hogs, racing from A to B with a total lack of respect for others.
One only has to read this newspaper to witness the harm we do daily to others by our actions or lack of action. And while reading this paper we can see the acts of kindness and respect which are becoming fewer and fewer so being worthy of reporting.
I will always slow for horses and pull over for emergency vehicles. I will always stop for funeral and bridal cars but I know there will always be someone who will blow their horn or try to overtake.
Let's hope that in their time of sadness someone will show their loved ones respect and common courtesy that everyone deserves.
