Community will be left damaged
I am totally disappointed with Shropshire County Council Conservatives' decision to possibly close 22 Shropshire primary schools, as revealed in their closure hitlist.
I am totally disappointed with Shropshire County Council Conservatives' decision to possibly close 22 Shropshire primary schools, as revealed in their closure hitlist.
I feel very sorry for all the schools involved but my main concern is Onibury Primary School. This is a school that, as a former county councillor, I fully supported, and helped in the fight to save its kitchens.
If asked, I will do the same and help in a campaign to save Onny School. As I have stated before, a school is not just a place of learning but also the pivot of the community.
The after-school activities create friendships not only with the children but also among the parents. Closing this wonderful little school will damage the community spirit forever.
Councillor David Evans, by voting for the policy that led to primary school closures, has thereby voted for the closure of Onny School and should be brought to task to explain his reasons why.
Voting with his Conservative colleagues for the policy without consulting the school head, governors and parents is unacceptable.
