Attempted break-ins at two petrol stations in Shropshire could be linked, police officers said today.

The incidents, at Ford Service Station and Mawley Oak Garage, Cleobury Mortimer, both happened within an hour yesterday.

Between about 1am and 1.20am offenders attempted to break into the main building at Ford, but were not successful.

Between about 1.35am and 1.45am, police believe the same people tried to gain entry to the garage in Cleobury Mortimer.

But they were disturbed before they could succeed, making off in a vehicle towards Bewdley.

Police said the times were approximate but it was thought whoever was behind the Ford break-in was also involved in the one at Cleobury Mortimer.

Detective Constable Russ Teece, of Shrewsbury CID, said the vehicle used is thought to have been a high-powered car, possibly a dark estate, and left Mawley Oak Garage without its lights on.
