Blair had string of failures
I suppose AJ Beyer's letter of December 13 would have to laud Tony Blair for his success in negotiating the Northern Ireland settlement since it was the only one of any substance during his 10 years in office.
I suppose AJ Beyer's letter of December 13 would have to laud Tony Blair for his success in negotiating the Northern Ireland settlement since it was the only one of any substance during his 10 years in office.
New Labour supporters like AJ Beyer have the benefit of rose-coloured spectacles when considering all the failures: Human rights legislation making the criminal's rights more important than those of the victim; targets for every public service, which it is more important to achieve than doing the job itself; the so-called strong economy based on borrowed money; the lies which took us to war in Iraq; the sleaze; Alistair Campbell. Need I go on?
The unfortunate part for the Labour supporter is that Blair's successor is proving to be an even bigger disaster than he was.
Fiddling while the rest of us see our country going down the drain, totally dominated by the EU, yet another broken promise, that of a referendum on the Constitution, which would surely throw it out.
Even our police force has to resort to threatening to strike to get justice having been stabbed in the back by the Home Secretary over their pay settlement.
Fortunately, as the recent elections in Brookside and Stirchley have shown, people are waking up to the deficiencies of New Labour, which is surely long past its sell by date.
I only hope their demise at the next election will not be too late to save our nation.
