We should celebrate beliefs

I refer to the letter by Jemima James regarding Jehovah's Witnesses. Of course the Witnesses twist the scriptures to support their own beliefs.

So do Catholics, Protestants, Methodists, Jews, Mormons, and every other denomination of the Christian faith. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and other religions do the same with their own religious writings.

The fact is that these writings were compiled by mere mortals who interpreted the facts, myths, and legends according to what they believed. We, in turn, interpret them to support what we want to believe.

The Witnesses will not give or receive blood and quote the Bible to support this. Yet according to the same book, at his last supper, Jesus said: "This is my blood. Drink this in remembrance of me".

These words are repeated in every Mass or Holy Communion service held. The truth is that whatever is quoted in the Bible is contradicted somewhere else in the same Bible.

Whatever you want to do you can find something in the Bible to support it! Don't blame Jehovah's Witnesses for their belief, Miss James. Blame the founder of their sect for interpreting the Bible in his way.

This is why I have no belief in denomination. I will say, however, that having travelled widely I have come into contact with many faiths and they all have one common theme. There is only one God.

Don't listen to others, whether churchmen or laymen. Worship God in your own way and let others find comfort in their own beliefs!
