W F Kerswell (Star Letters, September 26) makes some good points about pensioner bus travel and better use of buses including school buses.

The good news is that Shropshire County Council is moving toward the model outlined in the letter.

It is all in its Rural Transport Strategy, which it has just consulted the public on.

Small buses will undertake school journeys and then be available to run in rural areas during the day.

They will even be pre-bookable, as Mr Kerswell suggests.

This is the way we operate our own buses in north Shropshire - school journeys followed by daytime use for people from rural areas to get to market towns.

As registered bus routes they all accept bus passes.

Unlike most buses, our passenger numbers continue to rise.
