Pool old but not worn out

So, Councillor Armstrong, you are still insisting that you wish the general public to consult with the council over Quarry Swimming Pools.

Even though it has been admitted on the radio by the chairperson of one of the council's sub-committees that if 80 per cent of the people want option one (refurbishment) the reply given was "They would not get it".

Perhaps you could advertise the times and dates of this sub-committee and also the overview committee meetings and invite members of the public to attend. After all, both of these committees are mainly made up of councillors.

I have studied the Shrewsbury Swimming Facility Need Assessment report, and from the section "Why not refurbish" I note that no actual survey has been carried out, so all we can say on that matter is that it is an old, worn-out building. It may be old but it certainly is not worn out.

We already have a six-lane, 25-metre pool with the use of the boom in the Quarry Pool, and I believe this is adequate for the competitions we attract.

The report also states that water leaks from the pool in varying amounts. I can tell you that this rumour has been around for at least 20 years, so perhaps someone can inform us why these leaks have not got any worse?

Another point made is the glare on the water of the Quarry Pool. I think I can say that I have been involved in organising more galas than anyone else and this so-called glare has not caused any problems.
