Dismayed by bus route change

My wife and I made our usual weekly shopping trip to Shrewsbury town centre yesterday by the Meole Brace Park and Ride service, expecting to get off the bus at the bottom of St John's Hill, but the bus sailed straight past.

When we asked the driver why he didn't stop there we were told that the proprietor of the Sports Shop (Councillor Nutting, we believe) had complained and they were not allowed to stop there any more.

There is no indication anywhere that this has happened.

As my wife is unable to walk very far we had to stay on the bus and go round the town again - a waste of the council's money on our bus pass and a loss of trade to the market traders we are usually able to visit.

Our dental appointment in a few weeks' time on St John's Hill itself is also out of the question now as my wife certainly cannot walk that far.

The businesses in Castle Gates and now Wyle Cop have had to put up with the roadworks which have caused the re-routing of the bus route.

Surely the businesses in St John's Hill can do the same, or is it a case of "Not in my front garden".

Of course we do not know if he is doing this off his own bat or on behalf of all the businesses in St John's Hill.

We are extremely disappointed in this attitude as they are driving our business out to the supermarkets on the outskirts.
