The story in Friday's Shropshire Star about four-year-old Karen Lewis being asked to take off her hood in a Rhyl amusement arcade must be the result of poor management and inadequate staff training.

The responsibility for this lies with the owner. Clearly the rule is directed at youngsters who are there without parents, so it is easier for them to be identified on cameras in case of trouble.

It is indeed a strange phenomena that today someone wearing a hooded top can be asked to remove it, but someone wearing religious covering in which only the eyes can be seen can not.

However, the arcade owner is entitled to make up any conditions he likes.
