Campaign group is fighting for justice
My name is Darren and I have HCV. At this point hands go up and ask what is that. Well, it is the hepatitis C virus.
My name is Darren and I have HCV. At this point hands go up and ask what is that. Well, it is the hepatitis C virus.
I was diagnosed in December 2005. It appears I contracted it as a teenager, probably at the age of 12. I was diagnosed with Von Willebrands, a mild form of haemophilia.
I was treated with Factor VIII from America. This was made with blood sourced from US jails. The blood was infected and from high-risk prisoners.
Taintedblood.info is a support and campaigning group, with charitable status pending. I am supporting it in its fight for justice for the victims of what is now known as "the tainted blood scandal".
In Britain, more than 4,800 haemophiliacs were infected with hep C, and 1,200 of those with HIV. Many have died from their infections.
In the case of those given HIV, only 380 or so people are still alive. People are dying in poverty conditions with no help for their families and children.
The Government has steadfastly refused a public inquiry into this scandal.
They also have paid no compensation whereas other countries have admitted what happened and compensated victims. Even then money does not buy you your life back.
Please visit www.taintedblood.info and read about our fight, sign the petition, and help us get justice before there is nobody left to speak out.
