Area far from dead in evening

The recent Star headline "Ice rink may be replaced" should, perhaps, have used the word "demolished".

The recent Star headline "Ice rink may be replaced" should, perhaps, have used the word "demolished".

It is surely most unlikely that the budgets for any new developments around Telford centre will cover the cost of a major new ice rink.

It is, in any case, disappointing that the group now leading the council still seems intent on pursuing the previous plan of building on the arena within the Town Park.

This is only underused because the council no longer hosts or encourages events in the park such as the Kid's International and Super Saturday.

Also, I like our shopping centre as it is. I don't see the need to build flats there or reduce car parking.

Current evening activity at the ice rink, bowling alley, bingo hall, McDonalds and Weatherspoons suggests the area is not "dead at night".

The council's misguided aim for a stronger night-time economy will only succeed in bringing extra problems for the police with more late-night drinking, drug taking and other anti-social behaviour.
