High hopes for Keira's movie

Our man has already been mingling with the likes of Richard Gere, who stars in the film I'm Not There with Cate Blanchett. Atonement is one of three movies which hold British hopes at the awards. Knightley was due to tread the red carpet with her co-stars James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave. The movie production team spent nearly six weeks filming in south Shropshire, with scenes shot at Stokesay Court, at Onibury. The film is an adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel set around the Second World War in which Knightley plays an upper class young woman whose fledgling love affair with the housekeeper's son - James McAvoy - is destroyed by a tragic misunderstanding. Hearthrob George Clooney was due to arrive at the bash for a preview of his latest picture Michael Clayton, a legal thriller which is in the shake-up for honours at the festival.

Brad Pitt is expected in the romantic Italian city for the premiere of his new film, The Assassination of Jesse James.

Other stars anticipated to attend the festival over the next fews days include Woody Allen, Scarlett Johansson and Jude Law.

Atonement is one of three movies which hold British hopes at the awards. Knightley was due to tread the red carpet with her co-stars James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave.
