Star Kebabs, at 46 Mardol, has applied to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's planning office for permission to change its opening hours to stay open until midnight from Sundays to Thursdays and until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

It has already been granted a licence for the conditions from the borough council but must also apply for planning permission.

Originally the kebab shop applied for a licence to stay open until 4am seven nights a week but backed down when faced with opposition. The takeaway had a licence to stay open until 11.30pm from Sunday to Tuesday and until 12.30am Wednesday to Saturday.

In a letter to the council, the kebab shop's agent Regeneration Development said: "There is a substantial need for the extension of hours that is due to the presence of neighbouring pubs and hotels operating till late.

"A door supervisor who will welcome customers and keep order inside and outside of the premises will be present until the end of the service."

An objection to the application has been received from Julian Spencer, of Estates House, based on St John's Hill, stating it could create "unnecessary noise and aggravation".
