What is the problem with parking enforcement in Shrewsbury? Surely the matter is very simple.

If there are double yellow lines you are not allowed to park at all and where there are single yellow lines with accompanying time restriction signs you must not park within those stated time limits.

Park Rite's Sandy Harper must be consistent with his approach and not allow meddling local politicians and the football club to pressure him to not comply with SABC's obligation to enforce Traffic Regulation Orders.

Such restrictions need to be enforced throughout the borough and not just within the town walls, so let's hope that at least some of the additional eight Park Rite attendants currently being recruited will be mobile.

This will avoid the shambles of last Wednesday when STFC entertained Man City FC and parking restrictions near the ground and close by were blatantly flaunted with total impunity.

If this causes certain councillors some discomfort then so be it.

The answer is residents' parking permits.
