Drivers on mobiles are a threat

While walking on Monday morning at 10am along the riverside, from the Welsh Bridge and entering the Quarry at the barrier, two officials were instructing car drivers on things. As with the setting up of the showground many motor vehicles are now entering the Quarry on business, and obviously as this is usually a pedestrian area, I noticed the car at the barrier turned on his four flashing indicators and still the marshal talked to the car driver at the barrier.

"I hope they tell the drivers to not use their mobile telephones while driving in the park," I thought, and almost felt like interrupting the conversation to ask.

No, that would have been a little eccentric, so on I walked.

Within 20 paces a chap driving a council van was indeed using a mobile phone while manoeuvring his vehicle doing a three point turn outside the public toilets there and even 15 feet or so from the entrance to the Tot Spot children's play area, which was busy.

My shouting at this driver, who had his window open, brought this naughty chap to a halt.

Thank you. Well I can report no little kiddies were run over that time, but then again how can a vehicle driver resist answering a mobile phone if they are just driving at 10mph or less in the park. Surely no car driver could resist.

Laden with shopping I walked on, but seeing that van driver on his telephone made me so angry.
