Fudge in answer on golf course

A big thank-you to the Star for printing the council proceedings regarding the threatened sale of Meole Brace Golf Course. A further thank you to Councillor Jon Tandy for asking the most important question: Is the golf course being sold or not?

A big thank-you to the Star for printing the council proceedings regarding the threatened sale of Meole Brace Golf Course. A further thank you to Councillor Jon Tandy for asking the most important question: Is the golf course being sold or not?

The reply from the council chief executive Robin Hooper was a classic of fudge, confusion, red herrings and "thinking on his feet".

What a pity the chief executive had not been briefed properly regarding the actual size of this superb course - it is not 70 acres but 92 acres.

Hopefully his cavalier attitude of plucking figures out of the ether does not extend to other council matters.

Remember, one acre of building land is worth one million pounds, so our golf course is worth approximately £92 million.

How nice for the wildlife to be told they might be able to frolic in a country park. This has been the first mention of such a thing. In fact, it is such a clever idea, why not use it as golf course, which it is already!

Councillor Charles Armstrong, who holds the portfolio for leisure, has commissioned a feasibility study, costing goodness knows what, into Meole Brace Golf Course and its uses.

How on earth can you mention certain things before the poor souls doing the study have reported back to you?

We still await a visit by Councillor Armstrong to the golf course. As I understand, he has never been there.
