I was pleasantly surprised to see signs announcing the construction of Telford's Railfreight Terminal - a long established vision set to become a reality.

This is a major improvement to the infrastructure serving Shropshire and Mid-Wales. The terminal will utilise part of the trackbed of the Wellington to Stafford line, via Newport, closed in the 1960s.

Re-establishing this link to give Telford and the terminal a direct link with the West coast main line to the North and Scotland, as well as serving the fast growing communities en route, could become another vision.

I am aware that the current preoccupation is the re-establishment of the direct rail link between Shrewsbury, Telford and the Capital, but perhaps the Stafford link is worth a place in future transport planning.
