Primary cause of threat to planet
Global warming is a hot topic now. Much has been written about former vice-president Al Gore and his climate change documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

Congratulations must go to Mr Gore for spreading this urgent message.
However, a significant fact missed from this film is the main cause of global warming - the intensive breeding, maintenance and feeding of livestock simply for human consumption - a needless consumption. This is hard fact.
The most efficient and effective way to combat climate change is to simply change one's diet and become vegetarian.
These are not the ravings of only vegetarians and vegans (although they, and organisations like Viva! and Peta, have been saying this for years).
This year the United Nations said in its report Livestock's Long Shadow: Environmental Issues and Opinions that "raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined".
So, it's not just vegetarians and their soya bean needs destroying the rainforests. In fact, from one Amazon port alone, 220,000 tonnes of soya was exported to the UK last year - 95 per cent was used in animal feed.
