I wish to convey my hearty congratulations to Clive Evans for being named Citizen of the Year by Oakengates Town Council.

The shield, which is presented yearly, is for Clive's many years' service to the community as the owner of the Fruit Bowl in Limes Walk.

However, I would personally like to pay a tribute to a man who goes about his work in Oakengates quietly and very efficiently.

This gentleman does the dirtiest job - cleaning up other people's mess on the streets.

I am talking about Brian Davis, the person who keeps our streets tidy.

With Oakengates having many nightclubs and takeaways, this gentleman has some very nasty rubbish to clean up.

Brian, I know I speak for a majority of the residents when I say: "You are doing a grand job.

"Keep up the good work, as you are appreciated by us residents."
