The street where Constable Gray was killed was today returning to normal today. A police cordon around the home of gunman Peter Medlicott in Castlefields has now been removed.
Specialist police search teams last night continued their detailed fingertip search of the flat where Mr Medlicott shot Constable Gray in the head before apparently turning the gun on himself.
A group of 10 officers were seen examining the outside of the property and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called in to assist police.
A fire control spokeswoman said they were called out at 3.42pm to bring the aerial ladder platform.
She said: "We were just assisting police to recover evidence. I think it's photos and that sort of thing."
Police were then taken up to the roof of the property where they appeared to search the tiles.
Residents and passers-by were today stopping to read the floral tributes left for Constable Gray underneath a tree opposite the flat.
Pinned on the tree above the flowers was a picture of the police officer, with a silver star attached to it.
An assistant at the Spar shop, which was also cordoned off during initial police searches, said: "We have sold more flowers than normal. I think people are laying them for tributes. It's such a close-knit community here. People are still in shock."
A shop assistant from nearby Stars newsagent said Mr Medlicott and his girlfriend Mildred Day often came in the shop but she did not know them to talk to.
A neighbour, who lives near Mr Medlicott's flat but did not wish to be named, said she had known Mr Medlicott's girlfriend, believed to have nine children, for several years.
She said: "She used to own Millie's Cafe in Wyle Cop. I know her brother well. He is very upset and very angry.
"Mildred is very nice. She would talk to you and have a chat.
She added: "I don't really know Pete. Her brother said Millie and Pete had split up.
"His sister was taken down the police station straight after the incident and her brother was not allowed to see her."
