Climate criticism unfounded

W F Kerswell attacks global warming fanatics (April 18) who, he says, are misleading honest and credulous people.

He believes that eco-zealots cannot tolerate any scientific examination of their case, then he makes a few unconvincing criticisms of the IPCC report and finally makes the astonishing claim that environmental scientists who have challenged the consensus have been hounded out of their jobs.

It seems that, now the evidence of human-induced climate change is so obvious for all to see, climate-change deniers like Mr Kerswell are retreating from the well-known public-relations tactic of fostering doubt about IPCC science.

Their last desperate hope of undermining the international public demand for action on climate change, it seems, is to accuse green campaigners of being intolerant of dissent.

Attacking a broad-based and growing social movement, which forms its opinions from the best-available science rather than from extreme websites, is unlikely to be successful, in my opinion.

Talking of dissent, could I ask Mr Kerswell to make it clear in his next letter whether Shropshire Star readers disagreeing with his letters are global warming fanatics or eco-zealots in his eyes, or whether it is conceivable to him that green 'lobbyists' are just ordinary people who want to do their bit for their children's future?

Could he also give names of the many scientists, he claims, have lost their jobs over disputing global warming? It would be nice to see some verifiable evidence to substantiate these claims.
